501 Seventh Avenue
New York, NY

While building owner, Wien and Malkin, was attempting to reposition this garment center office building and attract larger corporate tenants, it turned to Janko Rasic Architects rethink the dated lobby. There was a dark ceiling over the double height portion of the lobby and a bright luminous ceiling over the low portion of the lobby. Janko Rasic Architects designed a new sculptural, floating ceiling of perforated metal and suspended panels to unify the two spaces. The renovation included new indirect lighting, dark marble floor inserts, a new concierge desk, decorative glass panels, and a new glass entrance system with revolving doors. The lobby renovation helped attract a new large anchor tenant which now occupies several floors in the building.
